日本語学習中のみなさん、こんにちは。The Trilingual ChatboxのMaiです。今回は「2022年日本で人気のある赤ちゃんの名前」についてお話ししたいと思います。初めに日本語で話し、その後に同じことを英語で話します。では、始めていきましょう！
すべての名前は美しく特別だと思いますが、時代とともに名前のトレンドは変わってきています。例えば昔は女の子に和子や智子など子のつく名前を付ける親が多くいましたが今では少なくなっています。そして、最近の名前のトレンドを調べてみて思ったことは、ジェンダーレスネーム¹が増えてきているということです。ジェンダーレスネームは男性の名前、女性の名前というイメージがなく、どちらにも付けられる名前のことです。例えば、2022年に人気のジェンダーレスネームは、葵（あおい）、陽向（ひなた）、空（そら）、暖（はる）、悠（ゆう）などです。同じ読み方の名前でも漢字で違いを出すことができます。例えば、「あおい」いう名前は青々と草木が生い茂る²様子を表す「葵（あおい）」という漢字や自然が生み出す美しい青緑色を表す「碧（あおい）」などがあります。
また、今は2音ネームもトレンドのようです。2音ネームとは、2つの音からなる名前です。例えば私の名前、「まい」も2音ネームです。2022年人気の2音ネームは男の子だと「れん」、「あお」、「りく」、「よう」。女の子だと「えま」、「みお」、「ゆい」、「めい」。残念ながら³「まい」はトレンドのリストには入っていませんでした。
それから、キラキラネームと呼ばれる名前もあります。キラキラネームは奇抜な⁴名前とされていて、世間一般とは違う読み方で読ませる「当て字」を使うユニークな名前のことです。あまり他の人とかぶることはないので、人気名前ランキングに載ることはありませんがキラキラネームも数多く存在します。読み方が難しく先生泣かせの名前でもありますよね。例えば宇宙と書いて「こすも」と読ませるとか。キラキラネームは賛否⁵がわかれると思いますが、個人的には一般常識からかけ離れた⁶名前でなければ良いのかなと思います。みなさんの言語や国でも最近の名前のトレンドはありますか。
Hi, Japanese learners, I`m Mai from The Trilingual Chatbox. In this episode, I`m going to talk about “popular baby names in 2022”. Let`s get started!
All names are beautiful and special, but the trends have been changing with the times. For example, in the past, many parents gave a name with “ko” to baby girls like Kazuko and Satoko, but not so many nowadays. And, while I was doing some research on the recent names, I found that the number of gender-neutral names has been increasing. Gender-neutral names are the ones that do not have any image of gender and can be given to a boy or a girl.
For example, the gender-neutral names that are popular in Japan in 2022 are Aoi, Hinata, Sora, Haru, Yu, and so on. Though the pronunciation is the same, Chinese characters can be different. Let`s take Aoi as an example. You can use a Chinese Character, which has a meaning of lush greenery or beautiful blue-green color created by nature or something else.
Also, 2 syllable names are on the rise. 2 syllable names are the ones which have two syllables. For example, my name “Mai” is one of them. In 2022, popular 2-syllable boys` names are “Ren”,” Ao”,” Riku”,” and You” and girls` names are “Ema”, “Mio”,” Yui” and “Mei”. Unfortunately, Mai is not on the list.
Then, there are names called Kirakira Name. Kirakira names are unique names. Parents give a special way of reading to those Chinese characters. Those names are usually unique, so they won`t be on the list of popular baby name rankings, but there are many Kirakira names nowadays. Those Chinese characters are difficult to read, maybe impossible to read, and give teachers a hard time. For instance, a usual way of reading the universe in Japanese is Uchuu but as a Kirakira name, parents give a phonetic guide to read the Characters as kosumo.
Kirakira names are controversial. Personally, I think it is OK to give a Kirakira name, if the name is not too far from common sense. Are there any baby name trends in your language or country?
