日本語学習中のみなさん、こんにちは。The Trilingual ChatboxのMaiです。
今回は「2022年8月のベストセラー本」というテーマでお話ししたいと思います。今回私が選ぶ1冊は、タイトルが「22世紀の民主主義」で、著者は成田祐輔さんです。様々な8月のベストセラー本ランキングを見たところ、そのほとんどにこの本が載っていたので、今回取り上げてみることにしました。
著者の成田祐輔さんは研究者、起業家、イエール大学助教授などの肩書きがある方です。最近ではテレビや動画で目にする機会も増えました。丸と四角のユニークなメガネがトレードマークの方です。この本では成田さんの民主主義に対する考えと未来の民主主義の可能性が語られています。
ここでは本の内容ではなく、私が思う「今の日本でこの本がベストセラーランキングに入るほど読まれている理由」を3つ挙げてみたいと思います。
まず第1に、著者が興味深い方であり最近メディアに引っ張りだこで何かと注目を集めている方だということです。彼の名前の前に「天才すぎる」という枕詞がよく付いているように経歴が素晴らしく、また、するどい切り口でわかり易く説明してくれるところも彼の発言に多くの人が興味を持つ理由のようです。
次に、この本に「選挙はアルゴリズムになり政治家は猫になる」という準タイトルがつけられているのですが、ちょっと気になる文言ですよね。選挙と“アルゴリズム”という全くかけ離れているような言葉が並ぶと一気に読んでみたくなります。
この本が多く読まれている3つ目の理由としては、日本の未来に危機意識を持っている方が多いからなのかもしれません。だからこそ、この成田祐輔さんが考える「22世紀の民主主義」という新しい時代のヒントを読み、何ができるのか、時代はどんな方向に進んでいるのかを知ることに関心があるのだと思います。
正直、私自身、民主主義に何の疑問も持たずに今まで生きてきましたが、この本を読み、急激に変化していく時代とともに民主主義も変わっていかなければいけないことに気づかされました。そしてこの本に書かかれている世界の先端を行く著者の新しい時代の民主主義の構想はとても興味深いので政治、民主主義、と考えずに軽い気持ちで手に取ってみても楽しめる一冊だと思います。
Hi, Japanese language learners, I`m Mai from The Trilingual Chatbox. In this episode, I`m going to talk about “Best-selling book in Japan in August 2022”. The book I chose this time is “Democracy in the 22nd century” written by Yusuke Narita. I checked out many different rankings for best-selling books in August 2022 and this book was on every one of them, so I decided to introduce this book today.
The author of this book, Mr. Yusuke Narita, is a researcher, entrepreneur, and assistant professor at Yale university. These days, we often see him on media such as TV and YouTube. Some people might remember him by his unique circle and square eyeglasses. In this book, he talks basically about his ideas about future democracy and its possibility.
Here, instead of talking about the contents of the book, I would like to point out three reasons why I think this book is read by many people in Japan today.
First of all, the author is very interesting and has been attracting people`s attention, and now he is in great demand in the media. As his academic and work history is amazing, you often see the word “extremely genius” with his name, and his sharp way of looking at things and clear explanation are also the reasons why people get interested in him.
Next, the subtitle of this book is “Election will be algorism and politicians will be cats”. Isn`t this wording enticing? when the words “election and algorism” are in the same sentence, it makes us want to read it.
The third reason why this book is read by many people is that there seem to be quite many people who are worried about the future of Japan. That is why people are curious about reading this “Democracy in the 22nd century” and they gain some hints of the new era that Mr. Narita pictures including what we can do and which way the era is heading at.
To be honest, I have been living without being interested in Democracy or politics, but by reading this book, I realized that Democracy has to change together with the era of exponential change. Furthermore, the opinions on the future democracy of the person at the frontmost of the world are worth reading. Why don’t you grab this book casually though you are not very interested in politics or democracy, you may be able to enjoy it.
