日本語学習中のみなさん、こんにちは。The Trilingual ChatboxのMaiです。今回は「印象に残っている言語学習の経験」についてお話したいと思います。私が学生の頃は日本では中学1年生（１３歳）から英語を学びはじめる生徒がほとんどでした。私も13歳から学校で英語を学び始めました。英語の学習で一番印象に残っているのはアメリカ人の女の子との文通です。その頃は、まだEメールやＳＮＳがなかったので文通をするしかありませんでした。私は全く英語が話せなかったし、英文もろくに書けなかったのですが、どうしても外国の子と友達になりたくて14歳のころから同い年のアメリカ人の女の子と文通を始めました。まず、ペンパルを紹介してくれる団体に連絡をして2，3人のペンパルを紹介してもらいました。次に、たくさんの英語の例文とその日本語訳が載っている本を買いました。その例文の中から自分が言いたいことに似ている文を探して単語だけ少し変えて手紙を書いていました。多分つながりがなく、めちゃめちゃな文だったと思いますが、毎回楽しみながら書いていました。結局2人のペンパルとは数カ月で文通が終わってしまいましたが1人のアメリカ人の女の子とは3年間くらいずっと文通を続けました。楽しみながらやっていたからこそ、長く続けることができたのだと思います。当時は手紙を読むことと書くことが特に英語の勉強だとは思ってはいませんでしたが、実際、リーディングとライティングの上達にかなり役立っていたと思います。できることなら、当時の自分が書いた手紙を読み返してみたいです。もし、クリスがこのポッドキャストを聴いてくれていてまだ私のことを覚えていてくれてったら、是非まだ私の手紙を持っているか教えてください。私はすべての手紙を取っておいています。現在はメールやSNSで外国の方とも簡単につながれるようになりましたよね。目標言語でやり取りができる相手を作ったり、目標言語を使ってSNSにコメントをしたりすれば、良い学習になりそうですね。もしThe trilingual chatboxのメールアドレスやインスタのDMに日本語で感想や質問をいただければ、返信しますね。言語学習に役立ててみてください。
Hi, Japanese language learners, I`m Mai from The Trilingual Chatbox. In this episode, I am going to talk about “Memorable Experiences about Language Learning”. When I was a student, most students in Japan started learning English at the age of 13. I also started learning English when I was 13 in the first year of junior high school. The most memorable English learning experience is exchanging letters with an American girl. Back then, we didn’t have email or social media, so the only way to communicate in writing with people from overseas was to exchange letters. I couldn’t speak or write English well, but I really wanted to make an international friend, so I started exchanging letters with a 14-year-old American girl when I was 14. First, I contacted an organization that introduces pen pals. They introduced three people around my age to me. Next, I bought a book that has many English example sentences with corresponding Japanese translations. I wrote letters by finding some sentences which are similar to what I wanted to say changing some words. I guess my sentences were not well-connected and messy, but I enjoyed writing them every single time. Actually, I had written letters to two of my pen pals for just a couple of months, but I had continued to exchange letters with one American girl for about 3 years. As I enjoyed writing to her, I was able to continue it. I didn’t think at that time that reading and writing a letter is a part of my language study, however, I am sure it helped me improve my reading and writing skills. If possible, I would like to read the letters I wrote back then. Chris, if you are listening to this and still remember me, contact me and let me know if you still have the letters. I still keep all the letters:) Nowadays, we can connect with people from overseas easily by email or social media, right? So you can easily find people who you can communicate with in your target language or you can leave comments on social media using your target language, and it is a great way of improving your language skills.
