What is your favorite place in Taiwan?
日本語学習中のみなさん、こんにちは。The Trilingual ChatboxのMaiです。今回のテーマは「台湾で一番好きな場所」についてです。一緒にこのポッドキャストを運営しているLoriさんの国、台湾で私が一番好きな場所をお話ししてみたいと思います。っといっても、私は台湾に2回しか行ったことがないので、その2回の台湾旅行で訪れた場所の中で印象に残っている場所を選びたいと思います。一番印象に残っている場所は、淡水（たんすい）です。10年くらい前に初めて母と台湾に行ったときに淡水に行きました。地下鉄に乗って緊張しながら行ったのを今でも覚えています。何も情報を入れずに行ったので、どんなところかもよく知らずに行ったんですけど、ちょうど夕方で素敵な夕日を見ることができました。後で調べてみたら、淡水は美しい夕日が見える場所で有名なんですよね。場所ももちろん素敵だったんですけど、その時は初めての台湾旅行で地下鉄に乗って台北市内からちょっと離れたところへ行ったということ自体が楽しかったんだと思います。そして、その帰りに夜市に寄りました。どこの夜市だったかは覚えていないんですけど、すごく混雑していて、活気があって、道も細くて入り組んでいて迷子になるかと思いました。お祭りみたいで楽しかったです。でも、それは10年以上前のことなので、今はもっと歩きやすくなっているかもしれません。今行きたいと思っている場所は、以前LoriさんがYouTube動画で紹介してくれていた九份です。日本ではジブリの千と千尋の神隠しにでてくる温泉宿に似ていることで有名です。でもそれ以上に歴史のある場所ということも知れたので、ますます行ってみたくなりました。そして、まだ台北周辺にしか行ったことがないので台中や台南、高雄にも足を運んでみたいと思っています。

Hi, Japanese language learners, I`m Mai from The Trilingual Chatbox. For this individual episode, I`m going to talk about “My favorite place in Taiwan”. I`m going to try talking about my favorite place in the co-host of this podcast, Lori-san’s home country. Having said that, I have only been to Taiwan twice. So, out of those places I visited during the past two trips, I`m going to choose one place I still remember the most. The place I still remember the most is danshui. I went there about 10 years ago when I visited Taiwan with my mom for the first time. I still clearly remember that we nervously took a subway there. We didn’t do much research beforehand, so we didn’t know what to expect but we happened to be there in the evening, and we got to see a beautiful sunset. It was amazing. Later I found out that dan4shui3 is well-known for its beautiful sunset. The place was of course amazing, but I guess I enjoyed the journey itself. It was exciting to get on the subway on my first Taiwan trip and go a bit far from Taipei city center. Then, I visited a night market on the way back to the hotel. I don’t remember which night market it was, but it was extremely crowded and vibrant, and I thought I would be lost because it was just like a maze with narrow lanes. It reminded me of a summer festival in Japan. But it was more than 10 years ago, so it could be organized better now. I`d like to visit jiu3fen4, which Lori-san has introduced to us in our YouTube video before. In Japan, it is famous because it looks like a hot-spring hotel in the Ghibli movie, “Spirited Away”. In addition to that, its deep history, which I learned from the video, made me want to visit the place more. Also, I`ve only been to the Taipei area so far, so I want to visit Taichung, Tainan and, Kaohsiung as well next time.
